After Creepy Intruder Scare, I Always Secure My Door WIth This Simple Little Tool That Makes It Impossible For Intruders To Get In
Sandra Chase |

Something happened recently that has me pretty shaken up. In fact, it’s opened my eyes to the fact that my home is not as safe as I thought it was…

A few weeks ago, I had just gotten back from work, so I tossed my dirty clothes in the hamper and hopped in the shower. (For context, my apartment’s on the third floor.)

Well, I was in the shower for about ten minutes before I finished up and shut the water off. But that’s when something happened that rattled me to my core…

Once I shut the water off, I could hear a vacuum running.

I live alone, and I darn sure didn’t leave the vacuum on!

Now, I’m 5’ 2” and 125 lbs soaking wet. My phone was out on the dining room table, so I couldn’t call anyone for help. What was I going to do?

My mind was racing. Maybe someone had turned the vacuum on so that no one would be able to hear me if I screamed. What else could it be?

Mustering up some courage, I wrapped myself in my towel and pulled the shower rod down to use as a weapon. Then, I flung open the door…

There were 3 men in my living room. They all had grey shirts and dark slacks on.

One of them was pushing a vacuum while the other 2 were on their hands and knees scrubbing the floor.

“What are you doing?” I screamed.

They looked at me, startled. Then one of them spoke up.

“We didn’t know anybody was home. We’re scheduled to clean the carpets.”

“No you’re not,” I said. “No one told me about this.”

They tried to insist they were supposed to be there, but I eventually cut them off. I could feel the tears in my eyes as I screamed.

“Just get out!”

They started apologizing and packing up their things. Two of the men left quickly, but the third lingered for a moment, looking at me. I felt so uncomfortable.

“Please leave,” I said weakly, on the verge of crying.

“Sorry,” he muttered before leaving.

When the door was shut, I raced over and locked it, then I pushed my whole couch over in front of it.

I called my landlord and told him what happened. He told me that there were carpet cleaners scheduled today, but for the apartment below mine. They had come into the wrong apartment.

He apologized profusely and I just numbly said it was okay and then hung up. Once the adrenaline left my body, I started to cry.

The whole thing was an eye-opener for me. Until then, I had always felt so safe in my apartment. But I had finally seen the truth: Way more people have access to my place than I thought. My illusion of security was shattered. And I had to do something to protect myself in the future…

So, I went online and started looking for people who had been in my exact situation. I stumbled upon an essay by a woman who travels a lot and uses Airbnb to stay in people’s homes. Because she felt uncomfortable knowing they could come into her room at any time, she uses something called the TuffBolt Lock to protect herself from unwanted intruders.

What was the TuffBolt Lock? Would it really help protect against an intruder, even if they had a key? I decided to do some research and find out…

What Is It & How Does It Work?

The TuffBolt Auxiliary Security Lock is a portable lock that can fit in your pocket, while still being sturdy enough to secure against an intruder.

It works on all doors, and securing a lock is actually quite easy.

First, you line up the hole on the TuffBolt to match the strike plate. (The strike plate is the metal with the hole where the door’s latch bolt goes in—and the latch bolt is the piece of metal that extends and retracts when you turn the door knob back and forth).

Then, you line up the peg on the other piece of the TuffBolt and connect it to itself, securing against the door.

It acts as a second lock on any door. And, the best part is that it can only be unlocked from the inside. It keeps you safe, and you have the peace of mind of knowing you’re the only one who can open it.

I could see why it would be so handy for that woman, since she’s traveling all the time and staying in strangers’ homes. But, it would also be perfect for me, someone living in an apartment, because so many people actually have a key to my place!

Millions of Americans Are Protecting Themselves With The TuffBolt Lock

There are over 1 million home invasions and 2.5 million burglaries each year, according to the US Department of Justice.

No matter who you are, young or old, male or female, by yourself or with your family, the TuffBolt Lock can be the difference between life or death.

That’s why millions of people like you and me are protecting themselves with the TuffBolt Auxiliary Security Lock. Because we know that when you leave something up to chance, it’s bound to go wrong.

In fact, the TuffBolt is being used in all sorts of situations, including:

  • Apartments
  • Homes
  • College Dorms
  • Traveling
  • Hotels
  • AirBNB
  • Privacy/Alone Time
  • Extra Security & Protection
But… Is It Really Worth All This Hype?

So far, the TuffBolt has sold over 10 million units! And, they’re not even sold in stores! The only place to get them is from the official website. In fact, the TuffBolt has become SO popular, that it’s been selling out every time a new shipment comes in. They just can’t keep them in stock! Plus, you want to know the craziest part?

It’s all from word of mouth!

People like you are loving it so much, they’re posting all over Instagram and telling all their friends all about it!

TuffBolt has easily developed a cult following. With over 8,000 5-star reviews, here’s what customers are saying:

Works great, makes me feel safe

I travel to many countries for work and have to stay in hotels. I’ve heard horror stories of people waking up with someone standing in their room in the middle of the night or when they get out of the shower. I bought my TuffBolt almost a year ago and have been able to use it on every hotel door. I always carry this for hotel door security. It has worked in four countries, including the US.

A little peace of mind

I want everyone to know this really works and was the most satisfying purchase I ever made! I was worried about getting what I paid for and if it was going to be durable, but I did and it was! This lock is nice because I live in an apartment. It won't damage anything and is easy to use. Sometimes the maintenance people come much earlier than expected, which can be a problem if I'm getting ready/showering or napping. This lock prevents them from entering before I'm ready for them to come in.

Highly recommended for travel safety

This is a well constructed product that is easy to install. I am an older female who recently traveled alone and used it in two different hotel rooms. The deadbolt in one of the hotel rooms did not seem to fit properly so I was especially glad to have this device to use. Before I purchased it, my concern was if it could be easily removed in case of a fire. The answer is YES. The design is really pretty simple but ingenious.

I still wanted a little more reassurance, so I actually reached out to Physical Security Specialist Dane Benson in hopes he would get back to me. Luckily, he did! Here’s what he had to say:

Hi Sarah, thanks for reaching out!

I am very familiar with the TuffBolt. In fact, I’ve given them to a lot of the people in my life who like to travel a lot, as well as my daughter, who’s staying in a dorm in college.

The truth is, criminals commit crimes when there’s as little resistance as possible (from both the target and the protection around it). Unfortunately, this can mean targeting the elderly, as well as using keys to break into homes.

That’s why you want to increase friction when protecting yourself or your valuables. In other words, make it as difficult as possible. With the TuffBolt, this means your criminal, who thinks he’s entering an “easy” situation (like a door without a lock on it, for instance), suddenly encounters unexpected resistance. This throws a major wrench in their plans, and they usually back off because their plan has been “thrown off.”

I highly recommend getting the TuffBolt, especially in your situation, where you’re not the only one with a key to your apartment.

After reading what Dane said, I was sold. I needed to try TuffBolt out for myself.

So, I ordered it through the official website and it showed up in my mailbox 4 days later.

After opening the box, my immediate impression was that it was small and lightweight, so I could just put it in my purse and take it anywhere.

It felt really sturdy, but would it actually hold up? In order to test it, I’d first have to figure out how to install it. Luckily, it was pretty easy:

1) Open door and insert claws into strike plate

2) Close the door, the TuffBolt will be held in place

3) Place the red piece into the metal lock

(Keep in mind, the TuffBolt only works from the inside, so you can’t leave it on the door when you go out, unless someone else is there to lock it.)

One thing I noticed, was that it was also fast and easy to get OUT of the lock. So, if there were an emergency, all you have to do is pull the red piece out of the metal lock, and the door will open right up. (I even tested it in the dark to make sure I could get out in any situation. Once my hands got used to how it felt, it was still super easy and took less than 2 seconds.)

Now, finally, it was time to test it.

I called my boyfriend over and had him stand on the other side of the door while I put the TuffBolt in. (He’s 6’ 3” and 200 lbs.)

Once it was in, I had him try to muscle his way in the door. (Of course, I’d left it unlocked so that ONLY the TuffBolt was holding him back.)

He couldn’t do it! He tried his hardest and he couldn’t make the door budge! He told me he even got to a point where he felt like it was him vs. the lock, so he was throwing his whole weight into it! He even hurt his shoulder!

So, I cooked him a nice dinner for his efforts, and I finally felt secure when he kissed me goodnight and went back home. But, my fears weren’t over yet…

As it turned out, I got the TuffBolt just in time…

The next morning, I was sitting in my living room with a cup of coffee before heading out to work. I heard a weird clicking noise, and turned my head to see my doorknob turning…

My heart was racing. I didn’t know what to do so I picked up my phone and dialed 9 and 1, with my thumb over the 1 in case something happened…

The doorknob turned, but the door held fast. The TuffBolt kept it from opening. I even heard a thud against the door, like someone was pushing their weight into it. Then I heard it again.

I went up to the door and checked the peephole. It was the same guy from the carpet cleaners who took a long time to leave! I yelled at him to leave and that I was calling the police. He told me he just came back to “apologize” again. Yeah, I’ll bet…

I did end up calling the police, and the man has since been arrested. It turns out, he had a warrant out for his arrest. Luckily, I don’t think I’ll be seeing him again.

How much does it cost?

The TuffBolt is currently 50% OFF on the official website, so it’s only $21.95.

Is it worth it?

Yes! A million times Yes!

At least once a day, I think about what could’ve happened if I never got the TuffBolt. It always sends shivers down my spine, cause I truthfully don’t know. It’s something I don’t even want to think about…

Ever since getting the TuffBolt, I take it with me everywhere. If I stay at a hotel or Airbnb, I use it. If I’m at a bar or restaurant and they only have single-use bathrooms, I use it.

In fact, I ended up getting one for my little sister, who’s still in college. She uses it for her dorm room or if she uses the bathroom at parties. After hearing about what happened to me, she’s never too careful, and that makes me feel a little safer about her.

Plus, I got one for my parents, too. They’ve been traveling out of the country recently, and it’s nice to know they have a little extra security in a foreign country.

The truth is, there are a lot of scummy people in the world. I’ve recently experienced this firsthand, and I kept myself safe with the TuffBolt. I highly recommend you visit their website and do the same, because you never know what people are capable of.

A great incremental security solution for anyone who doesn't want to drill bolts into your door/wall. Just pop this thing into your door jam and you're all set!

I feel very safe at night with this on. It took some Ike getting used to. I put this on one night and walked out the back door to the front door to see how sturdy and strong this is without the normal door bolt locked. With just the product on you still feel safe and it’s very secure.
